Jack Williams was born Jack Brooks in Silverton, a stones throw from the New South Wales/South Australia border. He was the illegitimate son of 15-year-old Leola Brooks, a field hand. His father was probably Willie Joe Williams who moved in with Leola, and Jack took his surname. He began making music at the age of
